Yesterday I wrote an extensive post on our sponsorship with Old Shawnee Days. I gave a peek into their social media campaign and the monitoring we’ve done for the four-day festival.
OSD publicity chair Ben Smith is utilizing social media tools (specifically Facebook, Twitter and TwitPic, to increase interactivity and make information more accessible for attendees. Leading up to the OSD kickoff on Thursday, there were just over 225 websites mentioning the events.
Overnight, I saw changes in their ecosystem.
Ecosystem Growth
In 24 hours, the OSD ecosystem grew 47% to over 330 websites. This pie chart categorizes the type of websites in the ecosystem. The chart on the left is from Thursday, and Friday’s chart is on the right.
First, an additional category is present on the latest chart. The Magazine category comes from the Pitch – a Kansas City magazine. Also, the social networking category grew by almost 4% (the biggest gain of any category).

We’ll be monitoring the fluctuations in these percentages through the event and shortly after.
Semantic Analysis
On Thursday, I described the importance of the #osdays hashtag to Ben’s social media efforts throughout the weekend. As of yesterday, the hashtag was present on 54% of all social networking sites (which includes Twitter) and 24% of web pages across all categories.
Today, those numbers are down to 50% and 23%.
There is anticipated growth in these percentages as the Saturday Tweetup for Night Ranger approaches. We’ll see if it works.
Sentiment Measurement
In 24 hours, there has been a 1.4% increase in positive sentiment and an 8.6% decrease in negative sentiment. This means that more people are generating positive conversations about Old Shawnee Days than in previous days.
The graph on the left is sentiment about the festival as of Thursday. The graph on the right is sentiment as of Friday. Green = positive. Red = negative.
