The Social Media Club of Kansas City is growing!

At this morning’s monthly breakfast, we met in the atrium at Crown Center in downtown KC.

As seen at BIG Omaha, the Midwest has a lot to contribute to this field.

It’s exciting to see new faces and hear opinions from across the city.

Here are some of the topics we discussed, and a quick summary of what was said.

Please leave your thoughts! We should keep this discussion rolling.

Social Media and Time Management

From the business angle, plenty of companies don’t yet have a person totally dedicated to managing social media tools. For some, it’s an added burden to an already full work schedule. We discussed good aggregation and monitoring tools (TweetDeck, Facebook as a content aggregator).

If your job description now includes social media management, how do you incorporate it into your current schedule?

At Spiral16, we’re beginning to video blog more often. During the breakfast, it was discussed as a more effective way to tell a story. You can use visual elements, but also the content can be shared in multiple places (YouTube, Vimeo, Blip, and blog embeds).

Almost anything can be turned into a video blog. Think of visually interesting elements, and use the basic skills for storytelling (beginning, middle, end). Combine still shots with live action, and always make sure you have wide, medium and close up shots.

We also discussed production quality. When I shoot video blogs, I’m not too concerned about special effects. I worry more about the content – I want to tell the best story possible in the simplest way.

Is less more? Do you think your videos should be professionally produced?

Content Reach

Where are you posting content? How many social networks and multimedia sites do you belong to? At Spiral16, we post content everywhere we can: blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, CrunchBase, SlideShare

There is more to the Web than Twitter, and the more ways you share your content, the greater your audience potential. If you constantly try to bring your audience to you, you may not see as much growth as if you bring your content to them.

Where do you post multimedia content? What has been most effective for growing your audience?

Flow of Feedback

How are you observing feedback on your content? At Spiral16, we’re lucky enough to use our own software to monitor our online presence (comments, sentiment, videos, blogs). Maintaining this can be overwhelming if you’re not organized.

If you don’t have a social media monitoring tool in place for your business, how do you stay current on feedback? If you’re growing your personal brand, what vehicles do you use for feedback?

We can’t wait to see everyone next month, and we’ll spread the word once a time/location is announced. Until then, enjoy the photos and please leave your thoughts in the comments.
