Social Media Resource for Executives: Letters to the C-Suite

by Eric Melin on March 19, 2010

You know, there certainly isn’t any shortage of resources for anyone who’s thinking about harnessing the power of social media for their company.

In this industry, you have to practice what you preach. Consultants, bloggers, marketers and the like are always talking about sharing content and the importance of being honest and transparent. This is what happens when a new industry pops up out of nowhere and begins to take flight.

One of those consultants is Jay Baer, who yesterday shared a 13-pg. briefing meant to help companies convince their executives either of the need to engage in social media or how to take what they are already doing to the next level. It’s called Letters to the C-Suite: Getting Serious About Social Media, and it was put together by his clients at ExactTarget.

You do have to fill out a short form to download it, but you can also opt out of the mailing list. Even though the letters–from social media experts across many different fields–are formatted to speak to executives, there is a lot of valuable information that could be useful to any number of customer segments.

Forrester’s latest research points to social media being the fastest growing marketing channel, reaching $3.1 billion by 2014. There are a lot of questions out there as this sea change continues to wash over all industries.

As Jay writes in his letter, “All of these answers are knowable, and if we commit to testing and optimizing our social media efforts in 2010, we’ll go from having a social media presence, to having a social purpose that drives meaningful ROI.”
